4 Simple, Yet Powerful Ways to Promote Your Facebook Fan Page

Facebook Fan Pages are the hottest thing on the web right now!  Business owners, movie stars, and even churches are finding how effective they can radically change the way they interact with fans.

Not to mention the viral marketing exposure they can deliver for a business!  Basically the more your "Fans" interact with your page, the more your page will be exposed to that person's friends!

However, promoting your Facebook Fan Page can be a bit challenging if you don't know what you're doing.

So I want to help you today by showing you 4 simple, yet powerful ways you can promote your Facebook Fan Page:

1)  Create A Custom Username

** NOTE **
You must have at least 25 fans of your Facebook Fan Page to be eligible for a custom username.

A custom username is now pretty easy to come by on Facebook.  And in fact, this strategy works great for your Facebook Fan Page AND your personal Facebook profile.

From a marketing perspective, a custom username (or custom URL) allows you to more easily brand your Fan Page on things like websites, business cards, documents, etc...

Also a custom username makes it easier for you to tell others how to get there (again, look at the 2 addresses above for example).

Create A Custom Facebook Username & URL

The way you create a custom username for your Facebook Fan Page (and also your personal profile) is by first visiting http:// Facebook . com / Usernames.

This page opens by default in the personal profile option.  Look below the shaded box and click the link that says "Set a username for your Pages."

You will then be able to proceed and set your custom username for your Facebook Fan Page.

2)  Embed your Facebook Fan Box

If you visit your Facebook Fan Page, and then look under your the profile picture, you'll find the following link:

"Add Fan Box to your site"

Go ahead and click that link, and you'll be taken to the dashboard for your "Fan Box".  There are a lot of ways to customize this fan box, but you'll see 2 easy edits right in the dashboard and these are "Streams" and "Fans".

If "streams" is clicked, then the comments from your Facebook Fan Page will be included in your Fan Box.  And obviously, if it's not clicked they won't.

The same for "fans" - if it's clicked, then your default number of fans is 10, and if it's not clicked then you won't see any fans.

If you look at the right hand side bar of this site (just look right), you'll see my Facebook Fan box.  This is the standard box without "streams" checked, but with "fans" checked.

Once you're done selecting "streams" and / or "fans", there are options for embedding into your Blogger blog, TypePad blog, or other.  If you have a Wordpress blog, then select "other" and then highlight the code in the text box that will appear.  Then take that code and embed it into a sidebar widget, or wherever else you want to present your fan box.

3)  Utilize the new "Get More Fans With SMS" feature

A lot of people have yet to realize that Facebook now allows people to send a text and instantly become a fan of Facebook Fan Pages!  Go to your Facebook Fan Page, find the word "more" (it's in small blue print), click that and a drop down menu will open.  Look down that menu and you will see "Get More Fans with SMS".

But wait... there are a few restrictions on this feature - which are:

*  you must have your own custom user name (see #1 above)

That's really the only restriction.

If you have your own username, then you'll see this feature present.  You can start telling others about, and you can even put a quick note on your blog or website with instructions on how to text to become a fan.

Look at the top right of this blog for an example.

The only other thing to remember with the "Get more fans with SMS" feature is that text rates do apply.

4)  Add a custom Facebook Fan Page banner to your profile.

This one is my favorite!  It's been a point of contention since Fan Pages launched, and that is the owners had no way to promote their Page to their personal friends on Facebook.

The "Fan Box To Your Site" does not embed into a Facebook profile.  And without that, how else is someone suppose to promote their Facebook Fan Page to personal friends on Facebook?  People don't want to be emailing their personal friends all the time talking about their Fan Page - most would perceive that as inconsiderate.

Building Your Own Facebook Fan Pages

Did you know there is a free tool that could be helping you promote your music and you are probably not making full use of it? That tool is the Facebook fan page.

Offering a wide variety of add-ons, the Facebook fan page makes it easy to stay in touch with your current fans and build an even larger fan base. Facebook itself connects 250 MILLION people around the world in a huge social network. 100 Million of these people are also using Facebook mobile on their phones and other wireless devices. If you have a mere 1% success rate, you could build 2.5 MILLION fans almost overnight. How many fans do you have now? I bet most of us could fairly say less that 10,000... What could 2.5 million fans do for your career?

One of our team members, Larry Ray, recently put together a Facebook fan page for the MusicBizCenter Blog so I asked him a few questions about the process to see if he had any pointers that could help the rest of us with our own music promotion on Facebook. He had some good answers and I think they will prove very useful to our readers.

How Do You Make A Facebook Fan Page?

Start off by visiting Facebook Pages and click the link to create a page, tick the third button where it says Artist, Band,or Public Figure, enter your desired page name and choose the Create Official Page option. This will then create and open your page for editing.

This is the basic page. This is just a starting point, however. You need to upload a main picture. Resize it to 200 x 200 pixels to make sure it appears properly. Then fill in your bands information, including the year you formed, your bands website and any other crucial information. Once this is done, you have the bare essentials of a Facebook fan page for your band.

So We Have The Fan Page. We Can Stop There?

Well, you could; if you don't want to really promote your band. To truly be effective in using a Facebook fan page for promotion, you need to take things further and add in some functionality and flair for your fans. Visit the Facebook Apps Directory at http://www.facebook.com/apps/directory.php to find some awesome add-ons for your Facebook fan pages.

One of the most crucial things you can add to your Facebook fan page is an RSS feed. If you keep your website regularly updated, you can syndicate the RSS feed from your website directly to your Facebook fan page and make all of your posts appear directly on your fan page wall. There are several good apps to accomplish this task so just pick one that you like. Larry Ray recommends the one called NetworkedBlogs because it also adds your blog to a searchable directory, making it possible to gain some new fans.

Another great addition to your Facebook fan page is the online storefront. You wouldn't dream of performing a free live show without setting up a merchandise table, why miss an opportunity to set up an online merchandise table for your CD's, Digital Downloads, T-shirts or other merchandise? Like the RSS feed add-ons, there are several great storefronts to choose from. Larry Ray recommends Payvment E-Commerce Storefront because it is free, searchable, user friendly and it is PayPal based so your fans can buy your merchandise using their PayPal account, e-checks or any major credit/debit card. You can even add a button on your main website to link back to the storefront.

Another great idea is adding your music to your Facebook fan page. There are a variety of apps to do this and you can even add your ReverbNation play lists to your Facebook fan page so you can let your fans hear your music and join your promotional team.

These are just a few of the great things you can do to make your bands fan pages offer functionality and entertainment for your fans. There are literally hundreds of apps available so take your time and pick out something awesome to make the best of your bands online promotion.

You can get more great tips and tools like these just about everyday when you visit the MusicBizCenter.com blog at http://www.MusicBizCenter.com/blog

Art of Facebook Marketing

The art of Facebook marketing can be both easy to learn and implement. However, as with all things in life and business - you don't want to overdue it or you'll reap negative consequences. You will need to learn the fine social arts of tact and seduction. Upon learning how to be tactful with your Facebook communications and the other Facebook marketing skills presented here, you will begin to see leads gravitate towards you. Remember that for any business to be successful, it needs to have customers. In network marketing your leads are your potential customers - so the more leads you generate, the greater possible income you can generate with your business.
Facebook is one of the largest social networking sites on the internet, and it is also one of the top five most frequently visited sites. Through leveraging Facebook, you can bring incredibly high exposure to both yourself and your opportunity; however, the way you bring exposure to yourself will be different than how you bring exposure to your business opportunity. If you have read any of my other writings, you will know that in MLM / Network Marketing I stress marketing and branding yourself - not your business opportunity. One very important thing to remember when practicing the art of Facebook marketing, you need to appear natural or you will get banned. As mentioned previously, this is where the social arts of tact and seduction come into play - keeping your marketing actions guised well enough to appear natural to Facebook.
Creating and Personalizing Your Account
Obviously the first thing you will need to do is create a Facebook account, after which we will begin setting up your profile to reflect who you are as an individual and as a MLM / Network Marketing Leader. Again, I can't stress this enough, for the art of Facebook marketing to be successful for you, great care and tact need to be exercised when personalizing your profile. This is a social networking site, so your profile information needs to be first and foremost about you, not your business. So go ahead and add personal information about yourself - talk about the activities you like, interests you have, maybe add in your favorite quote, and do a little synopsis about yourself. This is where you can state that you're a leader MLM / Network Marketing; however, keep it short and simple, as the object is to develop interest in you so people will take the time to investigate you further - if you give your whole life story you will remove your visitors drive to learn more about you. Make your entries personal and identifiable to you and generate the desire to learn more about you, this will allow you to redirect your visitors to other locations on the internet, which increases your opportunities to place more information of them and build value in yourself.
Links to External Sites
The whole point of this is to give your visitors another place to learn more about you. You want your links to be visible and in prime locations on your page, but you don't want to be overbearing with it either. A couple of the key places you may want your visitors to see the links to your blog or marketing site, etc is in the "Write something about yourself." box just below where your profile pictures is shown. You will also want to have all of your links listed in the "Contact Information" section, which is under the Info Tab. This is the prime location to place your sites, if you have multiple sites you want your visitors to investigate. By default, the Contact Information links will only be shown inside the Info Tab on your profile; however, you can make them be shown on the main profile page also. To enable this, simply click on the Edit Tool in the top right corner of the "Information" box (shown just below the "Write something about yourself." box), and check the box for Website. Now your links also show on the main page of your profile, as well as in the Info Tab.
Adding Friends
You will need to be careful when it comes to adding friends. If you overdo it here by adding to many friends at once, this can flag your account and get you kicked off Facebook super fast! So again, show judgement when creating your friend list. Although having a huge list of friends is great from a marketing standpoint - a huge list is also meaningless if you don't have a relationship with that list. So take your time, I suggest to add 10 - 20 friends per day and genuinely make a connection with them when they accept your friend request. Send comments to them and get to know them personally. It will help your new friends get to know you and investigate to learn more about you.
Wall Posts
A great way to connect with your new friends is through Wall Posts. Posting comments and replies on friends walls is a great way to get to know them personally and to start a dialog; however, it's also a great marketing tool as well, when it's properly applied. When you post a comment on a friend's wall, all of that person's friends also see that you posted a comment on his/her wall. So all messages posted on friends walls go viral - so if you have something of value to share, why not leverage the viral nature of the Wall Posts and share with everybody...
Status Updates
Status updates are similar to Wall Posts, but these are posts you make on your own wall. You can utilize this to let others know what you're doing right now, etc. These Status Updates also have the potential to go viral, just like the normal Wall Posts. Say you did a Status Update, but instead of just saying what's going on with you right now, you ask a question. If one of your friends replies to the questions, all of your friends and all of his/her friends are notified of the reply, etc...
Facebook Groups
Facebook Groups will prove to be the ultimate hub and the keystone to the art of Facebook marketing. You can join other people's groups, who have similar interests. In our case join some groups that are for MLM / Network Marketing, these groups will be filled with people who are already interested in the industry. You may even wish to join groups that are about your specific company or opportunity; again, doing so gives you a forum of like minded people that you can share experiences with, gather marketing tips, or learn new skills, etc.
As you have just read some of the advantages of Facebook groups, the true leveraging power comes when you create your own group. In so doing, you have the ability to accrue more credibility to your name, and establish yourself as the leader others want to follow. Remember from earlier, MLM / Network Marking is about branding and marketing yourself, not your product or opportunity. As a group owner, you have the ability to message the entire group at once, as well as create events for free training or anything you are offering. The great thing about these events, not only can you invite your entire group, but you can invite every single one of your personal Facebook friends too. This is true leverage and you would have to be crazy to not want to utilize such a powerful tool in your marketing.
Facebook can be, and is a wonderful marketing tool, if you are tactful in how you utilize it. As I mentioned earlier, it is first and foremost a social networking site, and if they feel you are abusing it, they will remove your account! Knowing this should truly help you in how you go about marketing on Facebook. There are over 250,000,000 users on Facebook on any given day. That is a lot of people you have the ability to market to for free! Learn the Art of Facebook Marketing and use it to help build your successful business.
